Gainsborough Revisited. Redefining a Classic

Gainsborough Revisited. Redefining a Classic

This artwork is based on a Chippendale Gainsborough chair, Circa 1780. It is partly constructed from discarded materials, (bronze, copper, and steel with an internal hardwood frame). This is purposed to promote worth and value through a considered approach. The chair upholstery is of the period of the original design by Chippendale and is overstuffed and hand stitched using horsehair and scrim.

Turn the Table A century of senseless waste.

Turn the Table A century of senseless waste.

This artwork has been constructed from mainly discarded materials, (bronze, copper, and steel with a hardwood top which is over 100 years old). The wood has been finished with oil to present a natural feel to compliment the legs which are organic in form, the work/s have been influenced by the Art Nouveau period and inspired by nature. Honest representation and social consideration are what the Arts and Craft movement stood for, as a taught descendant it is fitting that my work echo’s this ethos
